Broadband: Sometimes referred to as a high-speed internet, broadband is an ‘always on’ fast connection to the internet. Today there are a wide variety of broadband technologies available in most areas; two of the more commonly found and used technologies are cable and DSL broadband.

Whois: Whois is both a database and a tool. A whois database is maintained by a domain registry which contains pertinent information about domain names and their registrants (technical contacts, expiration date, etc.) Whois is also a tool used for accessing the various databases. Registrars offer the use of the whois tool to see if the name you would like is still available.

Ethernet: Also known as CSMA/CD, it is a networking technology which relies upon collision detection to back off from simultaneous transmission. Operating at 10 Mbps, 100 Mbps (Fast Ethernet) and 1000 Mbps (Gigabit Ethernet), it is the single most commonly deployed networking technology in the LAN, and the primary one used in UCInet LANs. Ethernet is a layer-2 technology.
